uMfolozi Municipality Celebrates Nelson Mandela Day
Take Action. Inspire Change. Make Everyday a Mandela Day
Annually on the 18th of July, the international community celebrates the life of former President Nelson Mandela, who dedicated his life towards fighting for human rights.
Mandela Day is recognised on Tata’s birthday to inspire individuals to take action and help change the world for the better; and in so doing, help build a global movement for good. Nelson Mandela Day, is day to help those less fortunate and rebuild the dignity of those affected by poverty. Tata once said, “Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”
Positive change begins with small actions for just 67 minutes. As each person acts, they fuel momentum towards positive change, raising awareness and expanding the reach of Madibas’ values.
uMfolozi Municipality is committed to fighting the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality and urges all residents to act not only on Mandela Day but every day against the scourges that affect or lives.
Let us all act against poverty and make everyday a Mandela Day.
