Community overjoyed over Mtindayi and Khondweni road handover

This is good news for motorists

The uMfolozi Municipality took its first step on the journey toward ensuring a better life for the people of KwaMbonambi by delivering two newly refurbished roads earlier last month. The project included the reconstruction of gravelling, earthwork, asphalting and finishes. The refurbishment process created temporary employment for 10 local people over a three month period.

Present to witness the momentous handover of the roads, were Mayor Cllr S.W Mgenge, members of the council, local chief and community members. At the handover, Mayor Mgenge said the municipality is walking the road to a better life along with the people of KwaMbonambi, and said they will not be abandoned in their time of need. Mayor Mgenge said the Municipality will be working along with other spheres of government to not only build roads, but rather integrated communities.

“We have committed ourselves in building quality roads that will provide access to rural areas leading to better communities. Gone are the days where the government will build just a road, without ensuring the integration of all services needed by the community,” said Mayor Mgenge.

The Mayor, Cllr Mgenge said that the municipalities must make sure that people in the areas have at least the basic services they need. There are a large number of services that the municipality provide, the most important of which are:

  • Water supply
  • Sewage collection and disposal
  • Refuse removal
  • Electricity
  • Municipal health services
  • Municipal roads and storm water drainage
  • Street lighting
  • Municipal parks and recreation

“These services have a direct and immediate effect on the quality of the lives of the people in the community. For example, if the water that is provided is of a poor quality or refuse is not collected regularly, it will contribute to the creation of unhealthy and unsafe living environments. Poor services can also make it difficult to attract business or industry to an area and will limit job opportunities for residents. I therefore appeal to appointed contractors and municipal officials to only produce quality work and that is one thing that we as a people cannot compromise on,” said Mayor Mgenge.
