The Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament held at the KwaDondotha sports field in uMfolozi was a huge success. The three-day sporting fiesta, which took place from 7 July 19 June – 9 July 2017, saw teams across the area of King Cetshwayo District Municipality and uMfolozi battle it out for the title of being called the champions in chess, boxing soccer, netball, Induku and Mountain Climbing.
uMfolozi Municipality held a Career Expo, hosting more than 2000 grade 10-12 learners, at the Dondotha Sports field, on Friday 7 July 2017. The Career Expo combined with the Siyabonga Sangweni Youth Festival and Mayoral Sports Day, aimed at providing information on skills development and career opportunities that is required and direction of study the learners should aspire towards. Annually on the 18th of July, the international community celebrates the life of former President Nelson Mandela, who dedicated his life towards fighting for human rights.
Everything is geared up for the uMfolozi Municipality to host its annual Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament on the 7th to 9th July 2017 in the sports stars hometown of Dondotha- kwaMthethwa in uMfolozi north of the province. A career Expo will also take place on the 7th of July 2017.
The devastated family of Asanda Mbuyazi a young mother with albinism laid her to rest on Friday, 2 June 2017 at Ndlabeyilandula, Ward 4 in uMfolozi Municipality. The body of Mbuyazi was found stripped naked in the bushes near her home stabbed 20 times by her boyfriend.

The uMfolozi Municipality held the 2016 Matric Awards Ceremony to honour the top achieving matriculants in uMfolozi, on Friday, 20 January 2017 at the uMfolozi Municipal Hall. A hundred and sixteen deserving learners were awarded with bursaries and certificates, while the top ten high achieving schools were awarded for their commitment to producing quality education.
Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi held a Digital Terrestrial Television Imbizo in uMfolozi Municipality at the Donda Sports Field, ward 17. The aim of the DTT Imbizo was to raise public awareness on Digital Terrestrial Television and the migration from analogue to digital television.
